Christmas in London
Having just returned home to Tunbridge Wells for the Christmas break, I wanted to quickly start seeing my friends who have been away at university. So, on Monday myself and my friend Holly, who is in her first year studying Journalism at Staffordshire University, travelled up to London for a festive day out.
As we only live a 50-minute train journey from London, travelling there is easy and we went there a lot whilst in secondary school. We started off at Hyde Parks Winter Wonderland, which was pretty crowded but that was what we expected. The stalls were full of hidden treasures and we could see excited children running around. After we browsing around we started to wonder around the park catching up on everything that had happened since starting university in September. Next we went on the tube to my favourite place in London, Borough Market. With the most amazing range of foods on offer (and a lot of tasters) what more could we have wanted from our lunch stop. We wandered around the stalls before getting paella for lunch, and later enjoyed steaming hot spiced apple juice and some amazing cakes (I think I had the best ever gluten-free pistachio, raspberry and rose water cake ever). In all honesty I think Borough Market made me feel much more festive than the Winter Wonderland, however, this could be due to my love of food. Lastly we went to Covent Garden with the aim to do some Christmas shopping and go to a coffee shop to warm up. However, we never actually made it to the coffee shop as we were caught up in the excitement of the street performers.
It was such a lovely day out, and it felt as if Holly and I were back in the world of studying (well more like stressing over) English Literature together, and had not been apart since mid-September. I do love going to London, as it is a city I feel I know quite well and I hope to arrange a media placement or internship in the future due to the amount of opportunities. Now I am definitely feeling very festive, so bring on Christmas!!
