Pokemon Go Away!
Today I attended a research lecture given by Peter Woodbridge from Manchester School of Art. I had no idea what to expect from a research lecture, but by the end of the talk I was so interested and engaged that I did not want it to end.
The focus of the lecture was on digital urbanism, exploring space between the physical world and the digital world, and augmented storytelling. These were subjects that I knew almost nothing about. The whole lecture was understandable through the use of examples, such as ‘Pokemon Go!’ and driverless cars. The talk highlighted how these subjects affect everyone and the world we are living in, as well as the amazing things that can be achieved through the blurring between the digital world and reality.
I have been inspired to look into these subjects further as it is clear how relevant they are to my degree and my everyday life. It has also made me start to question the pros and cons of this type of technology, for example the implications of building the architecture of the web into actual physical space.
If you find this interesting I could do a more detailed exploration into the content of the lecture, either in another blog or on the website, so just comment below to let me know.
