Week 32

Catch Up and Changes

It has been my first week back at work since my Easter holiday. Coming back after a while away feels a bit strange and it took some time for me to get back into the work day flow. I was glad to hear that whilst I was away everything run smoothly, but what felt most amazing was how much people had missed me as it showed me what a valued team member I am. I feel sad that I will not be working here for much longer but I feel very blessed from being able to spend my year at UCB and work with such a friendly and great team.

I returned to a ton of emails which took my whole first day back to get on top of and complete all of the requests and answer all of the questions. However, as I had pre-booked so many interviews in advance I am not feeling stressed about content which is nice.

This week I have started booking in more interviews for July and August. However, soon my attention will be shifting to preparing things for my departure to make it as easy as possible for Ruth to go back to producing the show on her own. What makes this most difficult is my last 2 weeks at UCB Ruth will actually be away on holiday so everything needs to be finalised and confirmed by then. I have had a lot of Soundcloud editing to catch up on this week, some with very tight deadlines, but I quickly got back into it and completed all of the tasks.  One challenge this week presented was a guest cancelling the night before their interview, however, I had decided to do an early shift the next day so picked up on it with plenty of time and was able to organise alternative content which I had already edited to play out instead. This shows how much my problem solving skills have developed over the year as I now do not get flustered but instead tackle the issue head on and then inform Ruth of the situation and the solution which we will be using.

This week at bomb shell was dropped on everyone when it was announced that a few of the Presenters will be changing shows and that the shows will also be changing which will be starting in under two weeks’ time. This was unexpected but the aim is to keep the content fresh and interesting. I am interested to see how the Presenters will take on this challenge and what the new shows will be like. This change does not affect ‘This Is My Story’ so will not affect the work which I am doing, however, I think I could have enjoyed the challenge of coming up with new show structures.

Next week is the May Appeal. I am actually quite glad it is my last Appeal as I do not enjoy them as much as normal programming. For the Appeal I will be working with Testimonies again to collect and edit Impact Stories to play out on air, and I will be working the 11am – 7pm shift again.
