Week 3
A Step Up
This week has been a step up in terms of my responsibilities. People have assigned me set tasks to complete, meaning that am working on a range of projects. I have enjoyed this, as even though I get a bit nervous due to lacking knowledge or experience, everyone is very supportive and willing to let me try things, even if they do not go perfectly.
I have continued working on the Impact Stories. This consisted of going through new testimonies for June and July, selecting potentials before contacting everyone, either via email or phone, to get permission to use it before inputting them into Raisers Edge. Then I have been booking studios out to do the phone recordings. It feels great to have been involved in this project from the start, however, I am anxious about doing the recordings in the coming weeks as it means learning how to use the studios and phone systems, which I have never done before.
I have been helping Dave go through one of the Presenter’s, Bec’s, past shows to look for short comments which would all be put together to be used in a promotion. I do not believe I did great at finding content as it is an aquired skill to be able to identify the best parts of a radio show, which would make sense out of context in a promotion. Dave also challenged me to try and think of potential benchmark content for the two Drive shows. This allowed me to be as creative as I wanted, but also taught me to consider the practicalities of my ideas and the company values.
I have continued looking for and contacting stories for Ruth’s show, but have not been successful. Although, on the 20th of September at 11am I was able to listen into her interview with The Moderator, which I had found and organised for her. I was delighted it all went well and this has encouraged me to try even harder to find more stories for Ruth, as I love seeing the work I put in become content to go on national radio.
I have been learning how to be a presenter with Samuel, who is going to train me to improve my current presenting skills and become professional. His advice has helped me consider new things and I am very keen to learn more and practice with a professional radio presenter. I have also worked with Samuel to find content for his Sunday afternoon show. This was fun and I succeeded in finding a positive and uplifting Christian story, from an angle he would not have considered to be linked into his chosen news story, an idea which he loved and has put into his show.
Sam has been teaching me how to use Audition to a professional level, so that I can help with editing audio. However, I have not been able to practice as I currently do not have access to Audition on my work laptop, but I hope to be able to start using it soon. Learning how to use Audition is an important skill, which will not only help on placement and my degree but also in future jobs. Sam has taught me how to upload content onto Soundcloud, something that will eventually become part of my job role. Whilst with Sam I edited a piece about prayer and uploaded it onto Soundcloud, even though my editing was slow I felt proud after I had succeeded.
I am very enthused to take on even more responsibility in the coming weeks and to start having more people send me set tasks to do, even though I still worry about doing something wrong.
