Week 26
Running Around
This week has been another busy one, of which I spent a lot of time at our other site in Burslem. After days off work last week, I had a lot of catching up, I fortunately finished editing interviews to play out on Ruth’s show. I have caught up on Soundcloud edits and uploads, so far no changes to how we are using Soundcloud have been implemented. I have contacted, scheduled and organised lots of guests for Ruth’s show. I feel particular happy at the progress I have been making with the bookings of guests, asI have completed nearly all of April and the majority of May. This will be helpful as I will be taking some time off in April and May. I have continued to add content onto Zetta for Ruth, and I have recorded more audio for Simon’s Saturday lunch time show.
I have spent more time working on Samuel’s Bank Holiday Special. For this I thought of a list of possible questions for each person who he will be interviewing. I spent time thinking of the basic questions but then trying to come up with some deeper questions which linked more directly to faith. I sent these across to Samuel to see if he was happy with them, and I was delighted when the next day he came to tell me how much he loved the questions. He described me as a creative person who can think outside the box, and commented that we could even do a whole show based around one of the questions. I was happy that my ideas went down so well as this is something a Producer would do, and I worked hard to make the questions stand out to keep the listener interested over the 3-hour show.
On Tuesday I spent all day in Burslem filming a Foundation Day. UCB do a number of Foundation days, which are teaching days where we invite our listeners to come and join us, this was the first one which I have attended. This time the Foundation Day was mixed with a Facing the Canon shoot so I went along to film. As normal for a shoot I was on the wide camera, I really enjoy shoots but the atmosphere was a bit different as TV had a lot of issues with equipment before and during the shoot. My camera had a fault and over the headset Dave told me he could no longer see my footage, even though my camera was still recording. This had already happened to another camera during the shoot. I thought about everything and decided to change the battery on the monitor, luckily this fixed it and it allowed Dave to use my camera again. Then as only two cameras were needed for the second shoot I sat in the gallery with Dave to learn more about vision mixing. He explained it step by step and showed me how to do it more professionally. As it was a basic camera shoot he let me give the vision mixing a go which was a lot of fun.
I was over in Burslem again on Thursday morning for a new session of ILM training. The topic of managing yourself has been an interesting one which I have really enjoyed. From filling in an activity log for one day of my work week I appreciated how much I do, but how much my day gets interrupted by emails and phone calls. From this I have been able to start evaluating how I can improve my time management. I am currently working on my newest ILM assessment, I am glad that I am keeping up to date with them and so far I have met all of the deadlines. My work life is where I have very good time management skills and I am good at working towards deadlines.
I am not sure what next week will look like, I am not expecting to do any more work with TV so it should be a more radio focused week. I value that my placement is so varied and it really helps to keep me interested and developing skills all the time.
