Exploring Media
Week 25
Here, There and Everywhere
This week has left me feeling a bit all over the place, but has been full of fun and excitement throughout. The beginning of the week started of pretty normally, with organising and confirming interviews for Ruth’s show, planning future content ideas and making sure Ruth had everything she needed for the next few days. I also edited and uploaded content to Soundcloud for the Presenters.
On Tuesday morning I travelled down to London with TV. We went to Lambeth Palace to film an interview between radio Presenter, Paul Hammond, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. This interview took place in his private study, and we had to re-arrange the room to work for filming. I was a camera operator for the shoot, using different DSLR cameras, but everything went smoothly and the interview went really well. Meeting such well known people is still a strange experience for me, however, I believe that during my time at UCB interacting with important guests has greatly developed my communication skills.
On the Wednesday I stayed in London to do another ‘Facing The Canon’ TV shoot. I loved being back on set, putting together equipment and filming. The atmosphere is always amazing and even though we are working for 14 hours we are buzzing from the energy on set. I have really enjoyed my time with TV and would love to look for more opportunities within TV to gain more experience. I have not yet experienced much of what a TV Producer does, but I hope I can find more opportunities to discover this, as it is a potential career path that I would be interested in.
Thursday, back in the office, was busy, battling tiredness from two days of TV shoots, with lots of work to catch up with. I spent time editing more audio for Soundcloud and organising last minute interview changes for the coming week. This meant I had to carefully balance the interview schedule. I also had to phone the winners of competitions to find out their details and organise the posting of their prizes.
Friday was an extremely full on day, trying to catch up with a weeks’ worth of work! I had lengthy meetings about changes to Soundcloud, which will take a long time to implement. However, this gave me space to air my ideas about possible changes I think would work well. I also had meetings with Samuel about the Easter Bank Holiday Special, and we are working out what is best to do next. Finally, I also did a lot of last minute Soundcloud and on air interview editing, all for very short deadlines.
Even though it was so busy, I had an amazing week, full of fun and exciting work. I am still loving my placement and all of the new experiences which come along with it. This experience is highlighting my strengths and weakness and showing me areas where I wish to develop further.
