Exploring Media
Week 21
Short but Busy
This week has been particularly short as I have had 3 days off for compassionate leave. Whilst I was away the station played out some very prominent and important interviews, which I was glad to hear went really well. This included an interview I booked for Wednesday with for Jackie Hill Perry. Jackie is an American Christian speaker on issues such as sexuality and same sex relationships, and she was sharing her personal story of these issues and finding her faith. This was an interview I really had to push for, but once it had been pre-recorded, we were so happy with it. When it played out we got a great response from other staff members and our listeners about the quality of the interview. I am very glad that I pushed to have her story featured as it was such a success. As a result people have started to notice that the quality of Ruth’s show has increased and now we are working with other teams to get our content more promoted. Another interview I sourced and encouraged was the Christian Comedian Andy Kind. Ruth ended up creating a promotional audio piece for the interview, and also Social Media made a short video with Andy linked to the interview. I am so happy that I have helped to boost the quality of Ruth’s show and that I can now start collaborating with others to get our amazing interviews more widely known.
When I came back to work on Thursday I had a lot of emails and tasks to catch up with. In addition I have started to use the new working methods agreed with the UCB1 show to aid better communication. This has involved going through each others scheduling methods and organising for each other to be kept updated.
I had a lot of Soundcloud audio to catch up on editing and uploading for the Presenters. I managed to finish 9 different audio interviews to be uploaded, and I am now back on top of everything. There seems likely to be future conversations about Soundcloud, focusing on how we can make the content appear more social media friendly. I agree that the layout and format UCB uses is not the most pleasing for social media purposes and hopefully we can find a way to make it work better, so more people will start listening back to the content.
With the Prayerline Appeal starting next week, I have been busy catching up with Testimonies work for it. I have been writing cues for all the interviews I have edited and also going through all old comments to find ones which were Prayerline focused for the Presenters to read out. I have disovered I will be doing the same shift work as last time (11am to 7pm) during this Appeal and I hope I will enjoy it more the last Appeal.
I have continued my work booking and organising interviews for Ruth’s show, to build up content for March. I spent Friday afternoon on Reception to help out, which I don’t mind doing on occasion, as it gives me time to catch up on my emails without getting distracted.
