Week 14
Staff Away Day
This week featured the start of Christmas celebrations playing out on UCB. This meant that all of the Christmas Traditions audio I had recorded and edited for Simon were going to start being aired daily. I ended up with 16 short audio pieces from all around the world from, Korea to America, Philippines to Montenegro. I really enjoyed working on my own project and once I had finished I found out that they will be playing it out on both Simon’s Drive show on UCB2, but also Bec’s wanted to play it out on the UCB1 Drive Show as well. It feels great to be hearing work I have created play out on air, and to hear from the presenters that the feature is having positive feedback. This task enabled me to use a wide range of my skills, from researching, connecting with people, using IPDTL, Skype and PhoneBox to call around the world, to use the recording system and editing on Audition, whilst working alongside presenters to make sure I am creating the content that they would like for there shows. I consider this project was a role which a Producer in the industry would do as I was creating content for the presenters to use of their shows, and I really enjoyed it.
I have also been working on finding more content for Ruth’s show. I have researched for and successfully booked more interviews including eight new interviews for January including some prominent Christian speakers such as Mike Pilavachi. I have also been organising Dan Sneed to do a short 10 episode feature for Ruth focusing on New Year New Identity, this is something that has not been done before on Ruth’s show but would give her some new content and ideas to play with. Finding new content ideas which still fits in with the theme and values of her show is something I am interested in pursuing more in the New Year. This is part of the role of a Producer and I want to start coming up with new creative features to develop those skills.
On Tuesday it was the Staff Away Day. This year we went to Wedgewood, to spent time together as we are normally split over two sites and also to find out more about the Company. All heads of departments gave presentations on their highlights for 2018. Plus, there was a meal and music. It was a great day and I had a good time mixing with other teams whom I may not get to see every day.
I have continued my work editing and uploading content to Soundcloud, I feel very confident in my editing abilities. However, I had still had occasional difficulties making a piece sound high quality when the phone line wasn’t as clear. This is something that I hope I can improve on over time and will do some research and practice to achieve this.
The ILM course that I am taking part on is still continuing and on Thursday I did my presentation for the latest assessment. I decided to do my presentation on Stress Management, and received very positive feedback from everyone about my presentation skills. I am still really enjoying the ILM programme and it reminds me of the Global Leadership Programme I am taking part in at University. However, as it is workplace focused and there are assignments to complete it is reinforcing the content even more.
Friday, has been a Pray Breakthrough day on UCB2. For this I have been on the phones for two one hour slots, this includes talking to our listeners to receive either their prayer requested or answered prayer and writing it down to pass onto the presenter and guest in the studio. I also have continued working with Simon to pre-record his Friday night show ‘The Weekend Starts Here’. I am really enjoying learning how to use the sound desk and looking forward to eventually starting to speak on the show and start learning new radio skills and get the amazing opportunity of speaking on National radio. I also had the opportunity to stand in for Anne on her ‘In Person’ pre-recordings of a month of prayer content. Samuel showed me how to use Adobe Audition to do the recording and the right setting the desk needed to be at. The task was surprisingly easy, as it was using a studio and systems I was used to but in a new way. I really enjoyed doing the recording and I like having the opportunity to learn new skills and try out new tasks so regularly.
