Week 7

In The Swing Of Things

This week has been a week of working to my strengths, using all of the skills I have developed since I first started and applying them to the tasks I have been given. However, the best news of the week is that I finally have access to Adobe Audition on my own computer which has come at the perfect time as I had a lot of editing to do and I could not wait to get started.

This week Rebecca was away, meaning that all the Testimony work was down to me. I have re-contacted people about recording their Impact Stories. Completed two more recordings and have all of the recordings I have done so far edited and ready to be aired during the Appeal. I have also been transcribing old interviews by one of the presenters for a different presenter to record their own voice asking the same questions to then re-use on the other UCB station to be played out.

I have had a long list of people to talk to about coming in to do interviews for Ruth’s show, ‘This Is My Story’, and by the end of this week we have seven new interviews booked in the diary. The increase in the amount of interviews I am now managing to book shows how my efficiency has dramatically increased and also it is demonstrating my organisational skills. I am very proud of how good I have become at this part of my job, because it is something that a Radio Producer would do as part of their job, and therefore I am developing useful skills for the future. Another role I have now taken on, which a producer would normally do, is to liaise with Broadcast Administration about the guests who are scheduled to come in for Ruth in the coming week, and also greet and supply hospitality for Ruth’s guests before letting her know they are here and any sudden new information she needs to know before they go to broadcast. For example, if a surprise guest has also come along or further information about the individual that was not previously known.

Sam, the content producer, is leaving next week. So this week I have officially taken over one of the aspects of his job, which was editing and uploading content to Soundcloud. I feel very confident about this role, but I hope that I do not struggle to keep on top of all of the content being sent through every day.  On top of the editing, I was enlisted by UCB1 presenter Gareth Cottrell from ‘The Shout Out Show’, to edit his Friday feature ‘Why I Believe’. These are interviews he has done with Christians which need cleaning up and cutting down timings ready to be played out live on air. The first edit I did this week was actually played out on air on Friday, and it was an amazing feeling to be able to hear the audio I edited played out on National Radio.

I feel like I have started to show that I can contribute successfully in the job, and I believe that others have started to notice as they are starting to ask me to do new tasks and give me new responsibilities which utilise the skills which I have developed over my time here.
